Instead, visitors explore on foot, by riding bicycles, or by taking one of the island’s numerous horse-drawn carriage tours. Fort Mackinac offers a fascinating look at the life of the British soldiers as they resisted the American revolution and sought to retain control of the Great Lakes fur trade in the late 18th century. The fort offers tours, reenactments, and educational opportunities. You can also tour a world-class art museum and the historic Downtown Mackinac district. Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to Mackinac Island without some delicious Mackinac Island fudge!
